Zwicker, Freiman, and Drulis Issue Joint Statement on Anniversary of Roe’s Repeal
While attacks on reproductive rights are on the rise, the LD16 Democrats remain united in their support for a woman’s right to choose.
Hillsborough, NJ – Today marks the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs Supreme Court decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade and commenced a wave of conservative legislation to ban access to reproductive healthcare. The LD16 Democratic candidates, Senator Andrew Zwicker, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, and Assembly Candidate Mitchelle Drulis, released the following joint statement.
“The LD16 Democratic slate stands in complete solidarity to affirm women’s rights to make their own healthcare decisions. Today we remember a dark date in our nation’s history, when women’s freedoms and rights were set back by decades. We remember how we felt on this day last year, and the wave of extremist Republican legislators across the country who banned women’s access to safe and legal abortion. We will not let them, nor our opponents, turn back the clock on women’s right to life-saving reproductive healthcare.” said Senator Andrew Zwicker, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, and Assembly Candidate Mitchelle Drulis.
While Andrew Zwicker, Roy Freiman, and Mitchelle Drulis are united in fighting to protect women’s reproductive rights, their Republican opponents are led at the top of their ticket by Republican Senate candidate and extremist Michael Pappas who has stated his support for banning abortion in all cases, even instances of incest and rape. Assembly candidate Ross Traphagen claimed to support abortion rights for the first time this past Tuesday, after receiving critique. And Assembly candidate Grace Zhang has issued no stance at all.
And while extremist Republicans have repeatedly worked to gut reproductive care, the entire LD16 Democratic slate has consistently fought for the right of women to make their own healthcare decisions. Both Senator Zwicker and Assemblyman Freiman fought to restore tens of millions of dollars in funding for Planned Parenthood, slashed by Governor Christie. Assembly Candidate Mitchelle Drulis has years of community organizing and constituency service experience, including connecting New Jerseyans with resources to access affordable healthcare.
LD16 Democrats are proud to stand for reproductive freedoms, and to continuously support a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions.
